The Magpie (Pica pica) is common bird here, but is very careful and timorous. I have not took good photographs of this birds yet.
To carve this netsuke I used part of the warthog tusk with natural cavity inwardly (see picture #6). The feathers is stained black and the branch is stained with yashadama in brown.
The 34 berries are inlaid with Black Sea rapana shell (Rapana venosa). The bird eye is made from jet. Signature is engraved in an amber reserve.
