At one of the auctions I bought a stuffed turretfish (Tetrosomus gibbosus). The beauty of fish scale texture inspired me to replicate it in a netsuke. I chose walrus tusk as material for the work as its high density allows carving the tiniest detail. To find out how to tell different types of marine ivory apart, you may read my article Marine Ivory in the CIS Netsuke Journal #6 03-2014.

The eyes are inlayed with mother-of-pearl and the pupils are carved from jet stone.
