This is the first in the series of three netsuke: Baku, Kirin, and Shishi. The antler of a European fallow deer (Dama dama) was used as the material for this netsuke. The "Flowing brooks" technique was applied. With this technique, I attempt to fully use the natural form and shape of the material, getting rid of as little as possible. Toning was done with yasha. Pupils are inlayed with jet stone.
